Thought I’d review another game while i’m at it.

Borderlands 2 is the obvious sequel to borderlands. Now before I go on, don’t get me wrong. I really like borderlands and enjoy playing the sequel very much. but…

They pulled the old, sell-the-same-game-twice trick on us. Disagree all you want, you really can’t be honest with yourself and say that they didn’t, They didn’t improve the graphics at all and the gameplay is exactly the same. All they did was add a few new sprite characters and changed the landscape a little. The rediculous amount of guns is fun, but it simply isn’t enough of a change for me to consider it a worthy sequel. It doesn’e help that this is my greatest gaming pet-peve.

Get it or Skip it? 

I have to say Skip it. Play the original Borderlands if you miss it but save your money for the bigger titles coming out this fall and there are A LOT so you won’t regret it.

I’ve been slacking on the blogs due to a rediculously busy semester but I’m back!

I know I’m really late on this review but I can’t let this game go under gamerduomo’s radar.

Many of you disagree but oh well. I think this is the best MMO out there right now. Does it breach a lot of barriers set by WOW? Yes. If it at the level I wanted MMOs to be at? Sadly, no.

This is a great MMO with the best storyline, gameplay and innovation i’ve seen yet. Not to mention you don’t have to pay monthly so its economically the best one out there as well. But it isn’t sooo much different from WOW in that it looks like a completely different game. It is still very much the same no matter what they did to make it different. I’m very interested in the future of MMO’s at this point because the opportunities, even though no big developer seems to have explored them. We’ll see with The Elder Scrolls Online I guess.

Get it or Skip it? 

Get it. No they didn’t reinvent the wheel but they sure as hell made a smoother, more affordable, and 1,000x more intriguing bike.

Today I’m reviewing The Amazing Spider-man. I was a huge fan of the PS2 games and have been waiting ever since for something of the caliber with updated graphics and a decent story-line. Unfortunately, this wasn’t that game.

The not so Amazing Spider-man has decent graphics and has some cool storytelling. But the faults are noticeable from the very beginning. Starting with faulty targeting and ending with far too easy gameplay, this game just isn’t up to par with what else is out there. And on a personal note, SINCE WHEN DOES SPIDER-MAN HAVE WEBS THAT LATCH ONTO THE SKY???!!! The funnest part of any spider-man game is the traversing and they crapped on that. This game could have been sooo much more fun had they just payed attention to details. Quite honestly it seems like the creators of this game haven’t read a single Spidey comic book in their lives. I wouldn’t be surprised if they haven’t even seen the movies either.

Get it or Skip it?

Skip it. Usually games like this can still make money because die-hard Spider-man fans will play anything with Spider-man in it. This on the other hand can only be enjoyed by those who aren’t fans because if you were, you’d be a little disgraced by it.

With nothing being released to speak of and great weather the gaming community has been kind of dead. Thankfully, a huge fall release season is coming up and the gaming world is alive again!

Darksiders II came out last week and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It is a semi-free roaming game with a fighting style and feel of God of War and a refreshingly long campaign. Most games in this genre tend to be very short but this one actually has some longevity. Furthermore it isn’t very repetitive. The difficulty is very appropriate for your progression and the bosses vary in difficulty and approach. What I mean by this is that every boss is different and none allow you to just attack mindlessly like most slice-and-dice games.

Where it does fall back is in the entertainment of some of the puzzles. Although they do make you think, you end up taking twice as much time figuring out how to open a door than you do fighting what is on the other side of it which is frankly the funnest part of the game. The fighting is very enjoyable and satisfying. The puzzles? Not so much.

Get it or Skip it? 

Get it. This is definately a very enjoyable game and because we cant get God of War for the PC this fills that void.

With a beautiful summer in the midst, not much has been happening in the gaming world. Prototype 2 is a purprising exception and was released July 24th for the pc. So why was such a big title released in such an untimely part of the year? Because it was supposed to be released in April along with the consoles, but it took them a while to make a good PC port so they postponed it. Damn PC ports.

Prototype 1 was a free roaming super hero (or villain?) game about killing off the infected and the organization that made it. It is similar to the PS3 game Infamous but I think Prototype blows it out of the water in terms of overall fun. Oh, and it’s also the most gruesome free roaming series i’ve ever played.  Anyways, Prototype 2 is very fun. It is basically the same game as its predecessor with way better graphics and a fairly different fighting style. And if you haven’t played the first one you really don’t need to to know whats going on. (If you want to follow the story theres a recap of what happened in Prototype 1 in the game menu.)

P.S. I do have to say that after a while of playing I have sort of lost interest. I still play it but not nearly as much as I did the first week. It’s still fun though.

Get it of Skip it? 

Get it. It is a very fun game that is well worth the money. I liked the first one but couldnt stand the graphics. With the graphics now up to par, Prototype 2 makes for a pretty complete game.

Just an fyi, steam games are super cheap thanks to the summer sale (because sales drop in the summer with noone gaming.) I just bought GTA IV including all expansions or 8 dollars and that wasnt even the best deal. I wont be redundant and repeat all prices to you but you should definately sign onto steam and check out the deals.

This coming up weekend of the 20th of July is hosting 2 big beta’s to be aware of.

First off, it will be the third beta weekend for the upcoming Guild Wars 2 which will now officially be released on August 28th. For those who have pre-purchased the game, you will be able to play it whis weekend. For those who haven’t unfortunately you won’t be able to. If you like MMO’s, I would highly recommend looking into this game. It is truly ground breaking in its genre and will be worth the money.

The second big beta is for the new strategy game End of Nations. I don’t know much about the game yet but it looks pretty amazing. But if your interested you should sign up soon because I think there are a limited number of slots available. The link can be found here.

Okay this is wayy too hard to find so I thought i’d post it.

Even though most websites are saying that The Amazing Spider-man PC game was release on June 26th (same as console) this is false. After way too hard of a time, I discovered that it’s set to release in August.

Thanks for letting us know!

Anyways, it looks pretty cool and I LOVED the movie (having read the original comics it is wayy more similar to the original story than the one with Toby Maguire.) So i’m definately pumped for it to come out / bummed that it isn’t out yet!

The much anticipated Secret World was released this week.

Having had the pleasure of playing the beta, I knew what to expect coming out. As a concept this game is amazingly interesting, but it suffers from the same thing that plagues most MMO’s. It is very repetitive and you simply don’t care about your character. Not to mention there is this feeling of restriction. If you don’t want to go out and kill 10 zombies 5 different times, you can’t progress anywhere or face any type of new creature. So your forced to repeat and repeat and repeat.

Stylisically and on paper this game is awesome. But put into action, it just doesn’t stand up to other MMO’s.

 Get it or Skip it?

Skip it. The unique concept just isn’t enough to mask the boring gameplay.

I’m a big Battlefield fan so naturally I had to buy the expansion.

The levels are fun and the proximity definitely changes the game especially if you’re a long range shooter. I personally had to change my strategy from a ranged assault rifle to a faster firing rate SMG. I would recommend this game to anyone like me who just loves battlefield.

I’d like to know what anyone else had to change in their play style to accommodate the new maps.
