We be headin’ to Somalia!
Hey gamers,
The much anticipated Diablo III is coming out later this month, and having played the beta, I can tell you first hand that it’ll be worth the money. But this blog isn’t about the game. It’s about a little trick Blizzard is using to prohibit pirating of this game.
How are they doing it?
Even though the game is primarilly single player, the game will require a constant internet connection to play, and the data needed will be stored online with no “offline mode” option.
This does seem like the way to go for pirate preventiong. But as the developers know all too well, pirates will stop at nothing to get what they want. If executed correctly, this chould work. But honestly I’m predicting a pirated version within 6 month of its release. If you look at a blog post from a few weeks ago, I explain how Ubisoft used a pirated crack for their game to fix a bad glitch. This makes me believe these pirates are just as skilled as the programmers themselves and make quite a resiliant foe.
None can know for sure until it is released, but rest assured, there will be a long, hard-fought battle before these pirates give up.

I’m wondering if this will feel like an MMO now?
That is really fascinating, You are a very skilled blogger. I have joined your rss feed and look ahead to seeking more of your fantastic post. Also, I have shared your web site in my social networks
Thanks! I think the struggle against piracy is particulairly interesting. The only successful games that have prevented it seem to be the MMO’s simply because it’s online only. I definately see most gaming going in that direction in the future.
